Fried Green Tomatoes and Remoulade

Vegan Fried Green Tomatoes and Remoulade

 

Ingredients:

 

Green Tomatoes

 

-2 Medium Green Tomatoes 

-2 cups Panko Bread Crumbs

-1 cup Tempura Mix (White Flour also works)

-1/2-3/4 cup water

The Following Seasonings to Taste (about 1 teaspoon for batter and 1 tablespoon for the Panko Bread Crumbs):

-Black Pepper

-Onion Salt (I used the one from Trader Joe’s)

-Paprika

-Salt

-Garlic Powder

 

Remoulade

 

-1/4 cup Vegan Mayo

-1 tablespoon Sriracha

-2 tablespoons Prepared Horseradish

-1 teaspoon Lemon Juice

-1 tablespoon Pickle Juice

1 Teaspoon of Each of the Following;

-Paprika

-Black Pepper

-Onion Salt

-Cumin

 

 

Directions:

 

  1. Prepare the remoulade: Place all of the ingredients in a small bowl and combine well. Place in the fridge to chill

  2. Prepare the batter for the green tomatoes: In a medium bowl, mix the Tempura mix and spices listed. Add water to form a thin pancake batter consistency

  3. In a shallow dish, mix bread crumbs and the seasonings listed until well combined

  4. Heat about a 1/2 inch of oil in a large skillet on medium-low heat. Slice green tomatoes into 1/4 inch disks. Season lightly with salt and black pepper. Dip the tomatoes in the batter first and then into the bread crumbs. Then, go back into the batter and into the bread crumbs a final time

  5. Fry tomatoes until golden brown and serve with remoulade
