Vegan Tempeh Bacon and BLT

Tempeh Bacon

 

Ingredients

 

-1 8-ounce package of tempeh (I used the one from Trader Joe’s)

-1/2 cup of soy sauce

-1/4 cup olive oil, or oil of choice

-1 tablespoon liquid smoke

-1 tablespoon simple syrup (you can use regular sugar as well)

-1 squeeze of sriracha

The following seasonings to taste:

-black pepper

-garlic powder

-paprika

 

Directions

 

  1. Cut tempeh into desired strip size. I cut mine into eight strips by cutting the tempeh block in half, cutting the halves length-wise (leaving me with four pieces), and then cutting those in half to make strips

  2. Mix marinade by combining the remaining ingredients in a container with a lid

  3. Add tempeh to marinade, cover with lid, and shake to cover each piece of tempeh

  4. Refrigerate and marinate for 2-4 hours

  5. Prepare tempeh by air frying for 4-8 minutes on 400º F, depending on your desired amount of crispiness. You can also bake tempeh in the oven at 425º F. 

  6. Serve as desired

 

 

Tempeh Bacon BLT

 

Ingredients

 

-Tempeh Bacon

-2-4 leaves of lettuce (I used iceberg)

-2 slices of tomato

-1-2 tablespoons of vegan mayo (I used Veganaise)

-2 slices of bread of choice

Optional

-Sliced red onion

-Sliced avocado

 

Directions:

 

  1. Toast your bread to desired color

  2. Build sandwich: spread mayo on bread. Add lettuce, tempeh bacon, tomato, avocado, and red onion. 

  3. Enjoy!
