Vegan Mozzarella Sticks

 

Ingredients:

 

-1 Package of Vegan Mozzarella Slices

-3 tablespoons All-Purpose Flour

-3 tablespoons Cornstarch

-1/4 cup Water

-1 cup Panko Bread Crumbs

-Oil for frying

-Nonstick spray

The Following Seasonings to Taste (about 1 tablespoon):

-Seasoning Salt

-Black Pepper

-Dried Thyme

-Italian Seasoning (2-3 tablespoons)

-Garlic Powder

-Trader Joe’s Onion Salt (optional)

-Nutritional Yeast

Directions:

 

  1. Slice the vegan mozzarella into 5 or 6 slices and set aside

  2. Prepare the batter: whisk together the flour, two tablespoons of the cornstarch, seasoned salt, and pepper in a small bowl. The batter should be quite thin and about the same consistency is crepe batter or beaten eggs

  3. Prepare the breading: Mix the bread crumbs, cornstarch, and seasonings in a large bowl

  4. Dip the cheese slices into the batter, then into the breading. Then, repeat these steps so the cheese has a double coating. The cheese should be completely covered. If not, pour a small amount of the batter into the breading. Use the now wet breading and mold it around the cheese

  5. Lightly spray a plate with the nonstick spray and place the mozzarella sticks onto the plate. Place the plate in the freezer for at least two hours. Do not skip this step!

  6. Heat about three inches of oil in a small pot on medium heat. Fry the mozzarella sticks until golden brown.
