“I’m sure it’ll be fine” isn’t the most encouraging phrase. I mean, in my experience, most things do end up being fine. But it’s not a sure fire thing. I left breakfast with Letitia feeling indifferent. As I said, I had no choice but to go. I approached this trip to Poland in a way that I never have before. I was basically booking my trains and hotels as I went along. In true Katie fashion, I had a general idea of what I wanted to do: I knew I was flying to Berlin and taking the train to Poznań. But none of the small details were planned out until the very last minute. Therefore, I headed back to my hotel to book my train and hotel for Poznań.
Mortified by my experience the night before, this process took way longer than I originally intended. I spent almost an hour skimming over hotels in Poznań, reading reviews, and trying to find one that was not too expensive but somewhere near tourist attractions so I would not be isolated. I wanted something that was also close to the secondary school in which the conference I was attending would be held. Just in case I had to walk, I didn’t want anything to happen. This is way more work than I would normally put into finding a hotel (I ended up booking the Park Inn Hotel by Radisson. I really enjoyed my stay and the staff was amazing. I will link their website HERE if you want to take a look!).
When I finally decided on a hotel, I booked a 12:30 pm train for 45€. This would have me in Poznań with enough time to warm up for my piano rehearsal but most importantly, get me there before dark. Resolved in my decisions, I headed to check out.
I got to the front desk and soon found out that with the time now being 12:00 pm, there was no way I was going to make my 12:30 pm train. After combing through the fine print, written in German, with the receptionist, we determined that I would be able to take the 2:30 pm train without a problem. The good news was I wouldn’t have to drop another 45€ on a ticket. The bad news was this would put me in Poland later, making me all the more nervous. I encouraged myself to “thug up” and headed to the train station, which was on the other side of Berlin. My Uber driver was interesting to say the least, but that’s another story for another day...Read the rest HERE!
