A few times a year, I might find myself making a small cross-country drive. Luckily for me, no trip has ever been over twelve hours. I am not totally in love with driving but do not hate it either. Most times, I just want to get to where I am going as quickly as possible. This weekend, I made the trek from Rochester, NY to Chicago, IL. I may have mentioned before that Chicago is where I was born and raised. With the holidays approaching quickly, I traveled to the Windy City to spend the next two weeks with my family and friends.
I find driving as means for travel in comparison to flying is far easier to do as a vegan. For one, you have more autonomy as you can always deviate off the path in search of options. When you are stuck in an airport, there often aren’t fantastic options and they are usually expensive. Like any other instance, taking a road trip as a vegan as doable and enjoyable if you plan ahead. Today, I’m going to share with you some of my tips for long-distance driving if you are vegan.
1. Plan ahead
This seems to be an overarching theme in a lot of my posts. Due to the nature of the vegan diet, you might find yourself not being able to eat anything at all, depending on where you are and are going. It is important to grab your favorite snacks and drinks before hitting the road. Not only will this save time so you won’t have to pull over unnecessarily at a rest stop, you’ll be guaranteed to have things you know you like. I am not a huge snacker, but snacks are nice to have when you’re just staring at the open road. These days, my go-to’s are cashews (unsalted of course!) and kombucha.
