The Best of Chicago: Part 1

I spent the last two weeks of 2019 in Chicago. I have mentioned a couple of times that I’m from the suburb of Evanston so my extended vacation in the Windy City seems more glamorous than it actually is. Either way, I got to spend much needed time with family and friends and got to take a break from my hectic schedule.

The vegan scene in Chicago has a lot to offer. I can’t say it’s my favorite vegan city (because let’s face it, LA has an insane amount of variety) it is certainly in my top three. Every time I go home, I am always excited to explore another vegan restaurant. There are certain restaurants that have become my favorites to the point that I look forward to going to them the minute I get home. Just like Poznań, I would like to share some of my favorite vegan spots I went to over the holiday break. I titled this entry “part 1” because I go to Chicago quite often. I’ll be back there several times this year and there are many more places to explore. Further, I have some all-time favorite places that didn’t make this list. I wanted to start here because I don’t have many pictures. I ran in and out with my take out order and forgot to take pictures of my food. In any case, I have to say this place was amazing! It is completely vegan Asian style cuisine and is perfect if you ever find yourself missing some of your pre-vegan favorites. For example, it is hard for me to get a noodle dish at a non-vegan Asian restaurant because they either use egg noodles or fish sauce in their dishes. Here, I ordered chow mein and added vegan shrimp and orange chicken. Everything was impressively good. This was my first time trying vegan shrimp and it tasted about the same as I remembered. The only thing that was noticeably different was the texture. The chow mein was fresh and flavorful. The orange chicken was also very good. It was a huge hit with my friend who is always skeptical of vegan food. All in all, it was a great experience and I am excited to go back and try more items while dining in. Urban Vegan is certainly a restaurant I would encourage both vegans and non-vegans to try...Read the rest HERE!
